Learn How to Do Something That Excites You ... Then Write a Book About It

by Bob Baker

Lynn Thomas was fascinated the first time she saw homemade gel candles at a local craft show. She was amazed by the 3D, see-through look of them; the scent, the way the flame seemed to float on water ... she was hooked.

But no one could recommend a how-to resource on the subject. That didn't stop her -- she simply plodded ahead and learned how to make them by trial and error, picking up tips wherever she could. Before long, she was making and selling beautiful gel candles in all shapes, colors, scents and sizes.

Then she wrote an e-book called How to Make and Market Gel Candles That Sell Like Wildfire. Good idea. Nice title. But, honestly, it seems like such a noncommercial, specialized topic ... how many people would really be interested enough to buy it?

The answer: plenty.

A couple of years ago, her e-book was the top seller at MightyWords.com. After that, the e-book site BookLocker.com was raving about how Lynn was selling dozens of copies a day. Steady sales continue to this day. Her e-book is indeed selling like wildfire.

Take a look at her web site www.HowToMakeGelCandles.com. Buy her book yourself, learn more about gel candles and see how completely she spells out the whole process in 50-plus pages.

Then think about how you might turn your passion into a how-to title. What special creative knowledge do you possess that others would love to learn? It doesn't have to be 400 pages long or sell a million copies to be successful. Simply having a helpful book available increases your recognition factor and transforms you into a credible resource on your chosen subject.
