Welcome!
=> 1. The July 19 Teleconference Free-for-All
This will be cool, and you don't want to miss it. Mark your
calendar for this Saturday, July 19. David Hooper, of the
Nashville New Music Conference and Kathode Ray Music, will
thoroughly interrogate me for one to two hours this weekend.
He's promised to pick my brain and leave no piece of gray
matter unturned. I have a feeling his grilling will force me
to reveal my most treasured secrets about music marketing,
getting exposure, attracting fans and living your full
potential as a music person.
Alright, enough with the melodrama ... the best part is,
you can listen in on the whole thing. Here's how:
The live teleconference starts at 5 pm Eastern / 2 pm Pacific
(yes, that's 4 pm Central and 3 pm Mountain). Five to ten
minutes before the start time, call (507) 726-3300. When
prompted, enter the passcode 99011# (note the pound sign
at the end). There is no fee to access the call except for
any long-distance charges you may incur. For some good
money-saving long-distance call options, check out
http://1010phonerates.com/state.html and
http://1010phonerates.com/phone_plans.html
David is expecting a lot of people to call in and has even
beefed up the phone lines, but if you don't call early
enough, you could get blocked out. This should be fun. In
addition to him and I talking, I believe we'll open up the
lines for questions. We plan on recording the call and
making it available at a later date, in case you miss it.
I hope to speak with you this Saturday!

=> 2. Low-Cost CD Display Case Option
Subscriber Steve Brown sent me a message saying "Here's
a low-cost CD display case that all indie bands should get."
The company is called Bags Unlimited. Its cardboard
countertop display unit can be found at
http://makeashorterlink.com/?Y2FB13E45
Note that the one shown holds 14 CDs in regular jewel cases.
Right below it, there's a link to a display that holds 26
CDs. The site also sells a range of CD sleeves and shipping
packages.
Here are a few more web sites that carry similar products:

=> 3. Magdalen of Chick Pop Has the Right Idea
Check out Steven Digman's Music Dish interview with singer-
songwriter Magdalen Hsu-Li, who runs her own Chick Pop
Records label.
When he asks her "What rule of the music business do you
break?" her answer is music to my ears. It speaks to the
heart of what I've been preaching for years.
"I love breaking the myth of the starving artist," she says.
"That is such a lie that people tell artists from the day
they are born, and it's so sad that so many artists psych
themselves out with this myth. There is always a way to make
a great living from music or any art form if you are willing
to apply your creativity to the business aspect.
"People think that creativity should only be in art and only
the business should be in business. But the most successful
business people use their intuition and creativity to problem
solve and figure out how to make things work. It's important
to work from both ends using your creativity."
