WELCOME! Better late than never. I've been meaning to let you know about the 2nd annual Nashville New Music Conference (2NMC). The event will take place October 9 to 13, 2002, in ... you guessed it, Nashville, TN. I attended last year and had a blast doing a seminar and meeting/hearing lots of talented new friends. I plan on being there again this year, and so should you. Artist showcase submission deadlines are fast approaching, so take a look at www.2nmc.com/showcase for submission details. Visit 2NMC's home page at www.2nmc.com for an overview of this cool event. What's Bob Been Up to Lately? I know you're kept awake at night pondering this question, so I'll remove the mystery. In recent weeks, I've been ...

And the day will come when the risk it takes to remain tight inside the bud is more painful than the risk it takes to blossom." -Anais Nin "Life is not holding a good hand. Life is playing a poor hand well." -Danish Proverb ========== Bob's Buzz Tips of the Week ========== RADIO EXPOSURE: THE OVERLOOKED ALTERNATIVE Quick, answer this question: What's the best way to get exposure for your music on the radio? If you're like 99 percent of musicians, your first response has something to do with getting one of your songs put into regular rotation on a certain music station or show. That's a fair yet predictable answer. But if your thoughts on radio exposure end there, you're robbing yourself of some powerful options to reach fans.
Read the rest of my new column at MAJOR LABELS TO NET RADIO: DIE NOW The subtitle of the article is "You'd think the record companies would love Internet tunes -- instead they're trying to kill them." Newsweek's Steven Levy investigates upcoming legislation that, if enacted, would put most online radio stations out of business. Guess who's lobbying the hardest for the new law? "So why are the record labels taking such a hard line?" Levy writes. "My guess is that it's all about protecting their Internet-challenged business model. Their profit comes from blockbuster artists. If the industry moved to a more varied ecology, independent labels and artists would thrive -- to the detriment of the labels, which would have trouble rustling up the rubes to root for the next Britney."

Yup. Read all about it here: LABEL LOOKING FOR LATIN-BASED ARTISTS LA-based indie label JMUZIC Records is seeking music for its roster. Only artists who perform Latin music that falls into the pop, rock, alternative, folk and dance categories (performed in English) need apply. JMUZIC specializes in targeting the Latino market. The label is seeking already-recorded masters with artwork in place and ready for distribution. Submit material to: David Jordan, JMUZIC Records, PO Box 2592, City of Industry, CA 91746. Or send e-mail to jmuzicrecords@aol.com THE SECRETS OF SONGWRITING SUCCESS Roger Yeardley is a guy who takes action. A couple of years ago he sponsored Jai Josefs (author of "Writing Music for Hit Songs") to come and give a songwriting workshop in Yeardley's hometown of Cincinnati. "I liked what Jai did so much, I thought it would make a great multimedia product," says Yeardley, who pitched an idea that led to "Secrets of Songwriting Success." The two-CD set incorporates video footage from live seminars with hit song samples, text, web links and more.
